XXII Gourmet Festival
The first Gourmet Festival took place in 1995 with the participation of six hotels and six independent restaurants. The original format remains unchanged; each one of the participant restaurants invites a celebrity in the culinary scene. In the year two thousand, our friend Chef Roland Menetrey joined the team and since then the festival has been organized by the three musketeers. In twenty two years changes are seen in the growth and expansion to the Riviera Nayarit and Tepic. Twenty five first – class hotels and restaurants will be participating this year. The Gourmet Festival has given us the chance to increase the good epicurean reputation of the region and even of the country, but more importantly and better, it is the promoter of Mexican hospitality and the best experience gourmet cuisine in the world may offer.

Festival of Our Lady of Guadalupe
Probably one of Mexico’s most famous religious images is that of the ‘Dark Madonna’ or the Our Lady the Virgin of Guadalupe. The Cathedral in Puerto Vallarta is named for her, as is the church further north in Sayulita. The festivals for Our Lady comprise of pilgrimages or Peregrinaciones to the churches every day for 12 days. In Puerto Vallarta, Mexican businesses and factories walk to the Cathedral with their company flag or logo, carrying candles and singing their company hymn. You may also see convoys of walkers along the highways and byways all heading for the church. This is also the reason for the loud fireworks or cannons being sounded at all hours. This is a tradition hailing back to when farm workers were being called to Mass multiple times per day.
On the last day of the festivals, beautiful floats decorated with the scene depicting the Virgin blessing Juan Pablo with roses in his cloak also make their way to the church and town plazas.
Beta Sigma Phi Christmas Bazaar
The worldwide ladies Sorority who do great charitable works in their local areas, have a sisterhood right here in Bucerias.
They have a Christmas Bazaar, where handmade crafts, trinkets and festive edibles are sold to raise money for local projects. All the people assisted in these projects are local Mexican people, with disabilities or special needs. Hearing aids, mobility aids and specialized treatments are paid for by these fundraisers.
As is custom in many parts of the world, Christmas celebrations with family are centered around Christmas Eve. The main meal and present exchange are done on the 24th usually all day and into the night. Please bear this in mind when making your own celebration plans. Many local bars and restaurants are either closed or without the bulk of their staff. However, this does mean that most places are available to help you enjoy your day on the 25th!
La Dia de los Innocentes or Mexico’s version of April Fool’s Day
Jokes are played and made up stories are put in the newspaper and on the news, usually about something completely unbelievable.
New Year’s Eve
Everyone is celebrating so come and see and be seen around Bucerias. There are celebrations in the Plaza and at most bars and restaurants with lots of live music and fireworks at midnight.
